the new shoes

I was checking my email this morning and looked over into a corner of my office to notice the “shoes.” I refer to them as the “shoes” because my son hates them. He tells me they look gay.” Being older I’m not quite sure what that means and I tell him that I in fact am quite happy when I wear them. He, on the other hand really dislikes when I wear them. He especially dislikes that I wear them around him. When it was still warm enough to wear shorts around here, I surprised him with the sneakers, shorts and black socks. Oh, I forgot to mention I went to pick him up at his girlfriend’s house. He tells me I’ve scarred him for life. I tell him at only 16 he has already scarred me for life. I figure that after 45 years on this earth I have earned the right to wear what I want.
