Well almost. I know it’s not here yet but I thought I would start blogging about it now. For me Valentine’s Day marks the half-way point of February and another step closer to the end of Winter and the start of Spring. You ask where the romance is, well I’m getting there.
I really dislike cards. I dislike cards for any reason or season. I now for any guy reading this this might sound soft but what he heck. I write a letter to my wife for occasions such as this. I use these letters and these opportunities to express my love for her, to let her know how much she means to me and how grateful I am she has chosen to be in my life. This June we celebrate twenty-two years of marriage. We have had our rocky times but we persevered and came out on top. I recently read Seth Godin’s book “The Dip” and realize Nancy and I could have written this book.
I recently stopped in at Barnes and Noble and found a great tool that complimented my letter writing. It is an old time letter stamp with a stick of wax. You know what I’m talking about the wax that you heat and drip on the back of your envelope to seal the envelope. Then you place the stamp in the wax to mark it. When I do things such as this and then type this blog on a laptop I think about how conflicted I am that I often believe I was born several decades too late but that’s for another post.
Here’s my idea for Valentine’s Day. I was thinking the other night that many wedding photographers offer “engagement shoots.” So I started thinking about offering what I am calling, “I love this person but we’re not engaged” shoots. So I want to offer my readers an opportunity to win a free photo shoot. (The contest covers my creative fee only and does not cover prints.) Since my blog is relatively new and my local readers are just becoming familiar with it this offer will expire on February 28, 2009.
