iPhone Pic of the Day

I live in Western New York and 90-minutes from the closest ski resort. I have never been a skier not to mention much of a skier. I think it had something to do with living 90-minutes from a ski resort, paying for an expensive lift ticket just to slide down a hill, wait in long lines with snobby people and do it all over again. Then four years ago I went with our group to Gore Mtn. learned to telemark and now I love it. I don’t love it enough to go out and buy the equipment mostly because I enjoy taking photos when I go so I enjoy something with a quieter and more mundane pace.

Snowshoeing gives me an opportunity to quietly explore  the wonderful Western New York area. It also gives me an opportunity to get out of the house in the winter and enjoy what this area has to offer. It’s the solitude I enjoy. I take a thermos of tea and halfway through a hike I stop at a place I call “meditation rock.” I crawl out onto the rock, let my legs dangle and from this perch I can quietly survey several hundred acres. Often when I go I can be gone for hours on just a 4-mile hike. It’s not uncommon for me to return with several hundred photos. Everything looks so much different during the winter.
