Nancy and I visited with her Dad Friday night. He remained awake throughout the majority of the visit. This is unusual for him. As Nancy tried to feed him his dinner he made it quite clear he did not wish to eat what was prepared for dinner. Nancy said, “Watch this!” “Pops. Do you want some ice cream?” she asked. He nodded in agreement and opened his mouth like a small child as the ice cream covered spoon approached his waiting mouth.
We wheeled him in his chair outside to enjoy the slight breezes and last hour of Spring sunlight, I looked at Paul and caught him staring at me. Was he really staring at me? What was he thinking? I recall that look when I would periodically receive that look from my grandmother. She was also diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
