Monday Musings for March 22, 2010

This was an interesting week filled with more emotional ups and downs than one person should be allowed to have. Of significance was the passing of Nancy’s dad Paul. Paul passed away Sunday March 14, 2010. I’m working on a full blog post to commemorate Paul and his life. Two more deaths accompanied his. First was Terry’s mother. Terry is Nancy’s boss and friend of more years than I can recall. Nancy and Terry had talked about how they were sure they would be seeing each other within the same funeral home as a result of their parent’s passing. They did pass away on the same day and their respective wakes were in the same funeral home but one day apart. As we returned to OLC church from burying Paul, we were informed Paul’s roommate at the nursing home had passed away the previous night. Joe and Paul were roommates for several months. No one expected Joe would pass away let alone as soon as he did. They say death visits us in threes. This made for an emotionally difficult week. Thursday it was necessary for me to return to my full-time job as a social worker. Providing therapy to my patients was difficult but necessary for me to get back into the swing of things.

Cycling 35 1024x682 Monday Musings for March 22, 2010Wednesday afternoon we received notice Stephen had been told he would play in the first NYS Senior All-Star Football game on June 6, 2010. I’m picturing the Pro-Bowl for High School Seniors in NYS. What an absolute honor. The game will be played in Syracuse, NY at the Carrier Dome.

Thursday we attended the 2010 Quality Students dinner at Banchetti’sin Amherst, NY. Stephen was one of forty-NTHS students who received this honor. Stephen’s attendance was sponsored by Nancy’s boss Terry Lovria who owns the salon Chez Elle.Terry was unable to attend as her mother had passed away but Kujo’s uncle and godfather Joe attended in Terry’s place. Praise was heaped high on the best of the best from local high schools. These students are known not just for their academic prowess but also for their successes and achievements on the playing field as well as within the community. they are well-rounded students and leaders within their academic community.

Friday night mom accompanied Kujo to Classics V. Kujo escorted the ladies as they participated in the girls fashion show.

Friday my new single speed was delivered. Yes, this is the color I chose. Anyone who knows me knows I’ve always been just a little bit out there. Some of you who know me better know that I’m a lot out there, but in a good way. I love this bike and the single speed keeps the rider honest. No matter the terrain, no matter how hard the wind is blowing; you only have one gear.

Sunday I spent a few hours sending invoices, contacting brides and completing my work on the website for Michelle and Bryan.

When I hike or go for a ride a pad and pen are my constant companion. I almost always write with a fountain pen but when I hike and bike it’s any old pen. I love to write and most of the time it’s for my own amusement and personal consumption. My thoughts are random and too often fleeting and I feel the need to capture them as raw as they are racing through my head. I have several notebooks completely filled and when I have the occasion I often retreat to a comfortable place and reread the inked pages. In a world ruled by extroverts I am an introvert. This previously was a fact I attempted to hide but now is one which I am proud. It is my introspection which allows me to be creative and to tap into my inner creativity. For me a hike or a bike is not about the amount of ground covered but about what I see in the area through which I am passing. As a result I notice my surroundings and see photographs where others see nothing. I apply this technique to my photography with great success.
