Happy Earth Day

Happy Earth Day.

As I write this post I know I write at the risk of being called names by those who disagree with what I am about to say. I’m okay with those possible insults because if I cause people to at least talk about Earth Day and their behavior then I’ve accomplished my goal.

As I grow older I grow more responsible. I have always had a strong desire to assess my participation in any activity and assess what role I play in that activity to make it a success. Introspection is not new and it is certainly not a popular activity. When grocery stores began recycling plastic bags several years ago I jumped on the bandwagon more out of guilt than out of any need for responsibility. One day I went into my basement and retrieved several plastic bags which contained approximately 50-plastic bags each. I was appalled at the amount of space which would be relegated to a landfill if I did not recycle these bags. I was even more alarmed when I began to think of the amount of plastic bags in our landfills which are thrown away every day.

I’m not that angry person who gets in the face of everyone and tells them the importance of recycling and that they “must change their behavior.” I have never seen anything positive come from this style of confrontation. Instead I do my part. I now it’s a small part but I know I make an impact just by doing my part. Now if we all just changed even one behavior…

We are intelligent people. Regardless of our political leanings we all live on this great planet called Earth. We have the ability to destroy and we have the ability to conserve and restore. Make smart choices and let’s preserve the resources we have for our children.

Thanks for reading everyone.

Namaste.
