Hello again faithful reader,

It’s February. I know it sounds cliche, but I really cannot believe how fast January has come and gone. This week, like the last couple of weeks was busy. I just completed a book authored by Dick Hoyt, the father half of “Team Hoyt.” The book was a quick, easy read and reminded me of the goodness of the human heart. The book chronicles the life of this amazing father/son team. Rick was born in 1962 and diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Shorly after Rick’s birth, his parents were urged to “put him in an home, forget about him and move on with their lives.” Rick’s parents thankfully refused to follow this doctor’s directions instead believing their son could accomplish anything he desired despite his disability.

Turning on the radio last Monday morning we were warned about a “big snowstorm” that was scheduled to smack us dead in the face and drop over a foot of snow on the area. I arrived at the office and listened to complaints from people about the snowfall. I received strange looks when I said I was looking forward to showshoeing at night through the newfallen goodness with no light other than the headlamp I wear to light my way. Again it’s that solitude thing. Ultimately the amount of snow forcast for the area never arrived. We did receive about 6″ of the fluffy white stuff. I have to admit I was a little bummed about the inaccurate forcast. My pleasure in the new snow makes me an outcast among most family and friends as many people locally are ready for Spring to arrive. I’m looking forward to Spring as well but it’ll get here in due time. When it does I’ll be ready.

This past week I also had a meeting with a wonderful bride and groom and booked a little destination wedding for 2012. I’m psyched for this one.

I ended the week with a solitary snowshoe on some of my favorite local trails. I hit the trails early in the morning. The sun was shining and another “winter weather advisory” was forecast for this afternoon. As I came to the end of the hike clouds had begun to move in and the snow started. Shortly after arriving home I contemplated returning to those same trails for a night snowshoe hike. A winter night hike is even more impressive than during the day. Our senses become increasingly aware in the darkness. Sound is dampened by the snow, the lack of other people and the inextricable linkage of our senses. The falling flakes were settling on the outstretched branches of surrounding trees leaving a sea of beauty in its wake. Only God could have painted such a beautiful scene.

Thanks  for reading.

Namaste.

Chris
